The Beans: The foundation to a great cup of coffee.

At Seaside Sips we work with our bean buyers to purchase the highest quality specialty beans, and cup (test roast & taste test) each lot. We take these extra steps because we love coffee too, and this ensures we only purchase coffee we and you will enjoy.

The Coffee beans we all know, and love, start out as berries grown on trees. They have an outer skin that protects the seed, or "bean”, and this skin changes color from an unripe green color to the fully ripened red “cherry” color; the color at which they are best picked.

greencoffeeOnce picked the beans are then processed into what are know as Green (unroasted) coffee beans; this is how they arrive at our shop.
Since we are continually looking for the best and most interesting beans, you may not always see the same varieties season-to-season as you do in other coffee shops. This is because coffee is a crop, and has seasons when it is best harvested. And as a crop, it may not always be as good as it was last season. The fantastic Sumatra Mandheling you had last year may have changed this year because the growing conditions changed, thus changing the taste of the beans, and the final taste of the coffee.
Our blends are the exception, as we combine different coffees to produce the same cup year-to-year, and make the necessary adjustments as needed.
